Abstract
A Technical University from Romania is looking for research partners in the field of Materials Technology. The research is focused on the development of new generation of stainless steels, the research team realizing and structural characterizing these new materials (X-Rays diffraction, scanning electron microscopy). The partners sought are SMEs and R&D performers in the field of Materials Technology for Technical cooperation, Joint Venture or interested in EU/International R&D Programs.
Description
Cavitation is a phenomenon that usually occurs when a liquid is subjected to rapid changes (decrease followed by increase) of pressure that cause complex (mechanical, electrical, thermal, chemical) negative effects. In devices such as propellers of pumps, cavitation causes a great deal of noise, damage to components, vibrations, and a loss of efficiency. Generally, different propellers are manufactured of stainless steels, either from martensitic, or for austenitic class, that are resistant to cavitation-erosion when immersed in water. The project is focused on the development of a new generation of stainless steels, with improved cavitation performances, associated with the characterization of these new materials (metallographic analysis, X-Rays diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, corrosion resistance).
The partners needed are SMEs and R&D performers in the field of Materials Technology for Technical cooperation, Joint Venture or interested in EU/International R&D Programs.

Technical Specifications / Specific technical requirements:
The new generation of stainless steels having improved performances to cavitation-erosion will be elaborated by RAV technology, in special ingots. The experimental program will include specific analysis: spectrometry for determination of chemical composition, mechanical characterization (yielding strength, fracture strength, young modulus of elasticity elongation), X-Rays diffraction (for determination of the main phases from the new alloys), optical quantitative and qualitative metallography (by Olympus microscope, at different magnification- in order to determine the main structural features of the alloys), stereomicroscopy (by a stereomicroscope type Olympus, equipped with QuickMicroPhoto 2.2 soft for image capture) and scanning electron microscope (both on mechanical or corrosion samples, in order to reveal structural features for the microstructure, related to the improved resistance to cavitation-erosion).
